All three of the original Codeine albums have been itching for a reissue for some time now, and luckily it’s the Chicago based Numero Group who have stepped up to the challenge. Numero is not a label known for just slapping shit together, and what they’ve done with the Codeine material looks impressive. The set, titled When I See The Sun, takes restored versions of Frigid Stars (1990), Barely Real (1992), and The White Birch (1994), and spreads them over six LPs with tons of extra demos, a few Peel sessions, and a couple of live tracks for good measure. The liner notes will include essays by Sub Pop‘s Jonathan Poneman, Love Child‘s Alan Licht, and the Flaming Lips‘ Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd. The set includes CDs of the material as well. The box is limited to 1000 copies, and should be out in time for the Codeine reunion gigs slated for May.
